Broken Links in Social Media Posts Published by ClickSocial

Resolving Broken Links in Your ClickSocial Shared Posts

Sometimes, you might notice that the links back to your original WordPress posts, which are included in the social media updates published by ClickSocial, are not working correctly. This can prevent your followers from easily accessing the content on your website.

We’ve found that in some cases, the “short links” generated by ClickSocial do not work reliably with certain WordPress site configurations.

To address this, we have added an advanced setting that allows ClickSocial to use the “full post link” instead of the short link. The full post link should be compatible with a wider range of site setups and resolve the issue of broken links.

Here’s how to enable the full post link feature:

  1. Log in to your WordPress Dashboard.
  2. Navigate to ClickSocial > Settings in the left-hand menu.
  3. Click on the Advanced tab.
  4. Find the option labeled “Make Short Links default to Post Links” and enable it.
  5. Click the Save Changes button to apply the new setting.

Update your Revival Campaign or Quick Share Templates

If you are using Revival Campaigns to automatically share older posts, or Quick Share to automatically generate social media posts when you create new WordPress posts, you’ll also need to update your existing templates after enabling this setting.

Revival Campaigns

  1. Go to WordPress Dashboard > ClickSocial > Calendar > Revive Posts.
  2. Click on the Settings tab.
  3. In the Accounts section, where your active templates are listed, click the Edit button.
  4. If your template includes the dynamic variable [short_link], delete this variable and add the “Post Link” variable instead.
  5. If you have templates for multiple social networks, be sure to check each one and replace the variables.
  6. Click Save Changes on the Edit Templates pop-up.
  7. Click Save Changes on the main Revival Campaign Settings page to update the campaign.

Quick Share

  1. Go to WordPress Dashboard > ClickSocial > Settings > Quick Share.
  2. In the Accounts section, where your active templates are listed, click the Edit button.
  3. If your template includes the dynamic variable [short_link], delete this variable and add the “Post Link” variable instead.
  4. If you have templates for multiple social networks, be sure to check each one and replace the variables.
  5. Click Save Changes on the Edit Templates pop-up.
  6. Click Save Changes on the main Quick Share Settings page to update the campaign.

By enabling this advanced setting and updating your Revival Campaign and Quick Share templates, the social media posts shared by ClickSocial should now include the full, working links back to your WordPress content.
